Some Places Just Understand You

I grew up in a place surrounded by temples — almost every corner of the street had one. It’s a town filled with rich culture, beautiful traditions, and great food. My grandparents used to take me to the temples every single day.

When you grow up seeing temples everywhere, they don’t feel extraordinary — they just become part of your life. But somehow, that made them even more special to me.

As I grew older, I didn’t get the chance to visit temples every day like I used to. Life got busy. But whenever I go back, my mood immediately lifts. Being there brings an immense peace of mind. The breeze feels fresher. The air feels lighter. It’s like visiting another home. Like meeting a best friend, you haven’t seen in a while.

Reading this might make it sound very religious or spiritual — but it’s not really about that. I believe everyone has a holy place where they feel good and forget everything for a while, irrespective of their religion or the faith they follow. It’s that one place where, at least for the time they spend there, they feel calm and safe.

Temples, at least in my experience, weren’t only for praying. As a child, we used to chat and play there. Aunties would sit and gossip :) We admired the architecture. We made wishes — “God, please let me pass this exam, I promise I’ll study hard!”

The interesting part? We already know God won’t talk back to us directly with comforting words. Yet we still go. And that’s the power these holy places hold — they comfort us without speaking.

I must say, this comfort — this enjoyment, this breeze, this peace — doesn’t come only from temples. It can come from anywhere. Your home. Your bedroom (my other COMFORT PLACE — I could live there forever if I could). The gym. Or most beautifully, from a person.

A person who brings peace into your life. Who gives you comfort exactly when you need it. Who feels like home.

That is such a beautiful thing ❤️

Do you have a place — or a person — in your life who makes you feel completely yourself and at ease?
